Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm

Statement Issued: Thursday 9^th of February 2017 11:54

Innogy PLC have commenced work on the construction of the wind farm on Mynydd y Gwair. Work commenced on 6 February 2017. It is likely that construction work will continue for approximately 18 months. In the period between February 2017 and December 2017 all traffic going to and coming from the site will be travelling along the A48 though Pontlliw to the start of the access road on Bolgoed Road Pontarddulais. There will be upto 60 lorry movements per day with the peak number of movements being when the base for the wind turbines is made. The date when this will take place is not yet known.The wind tubines are likely to be delivered to site in or around April/May 2018. The delivery of the turbines will take place during the school day to avoid peak times.

You may be aware that today during Environment Questions, Dr Dai Lloyd questioned Lesley Griffiths AM on the issue of planning permission for the access road to the proposed Mynydd y Gwair windfarm. Dr Lloyd asked the minister to confirm which discussions had been held with the developers but was left slightly disappointed in the answer. The minister responded by saying that she has not held discussions directly with the developers over the issue. As I’m sure you’ll recall, Dr Lloyd has raised his objections to the project in the past and continues to hold those reservations.
