WHO WILL PICK UP THE PEOPLES BANER?
Today, the 7th Aug. 2019, Welsh
Government published a draft of their proposed National Development Framework (NDF) 2020-2040. It is now up
for consultation until November 1st.
Not sure what an NDF is? It
is a Spatial plan "which sets a direction for where we should be investing
in infrastructure and development for the greater good of Wales and its
people."
As you may judge from the above
quote it is an extremely wide ranging document which will take some time to
digest but of immediate interest to us members of CMS might be;

- the
Renewable Energy Policies - 10,11, 12 and 13, pages 36-42. From this
I attach a copy, from page 42, of the proposed Wales Energy Priority Areas.
The immediate impression from this map might be - the Cambrian
Mountains are safe, but looking at the caveat's in the
surrounding text perhaps it is not quite so straightforward.
However, an early question should be - will this NDF override TAN 8 and
its Strategic Search Areas notably, for the Cambrian
Mountains, SSA D (Nant y Moch)? The Society's objectives, as
registered with the Charities Commission, restricts our interest to the Cambrian Mountains but it would be useful to see the
rational/methodology behind the selection of the 15 "priority"
areas.
- the
Regions - in particular the policy relating to mid (and west) Wales
- Policies 23-26, pages 55-60. This might be taken in alongside Policy 4,
page 29 "Supporting Rural Communities." In my opinion not
a very good fit.
- also
of interest may be the final policy of the document - Policy 33, page 69,
continuing the idea of a "Valleys
Regional Park."
Perhaps WG should also have included Policy 34 - A Cambrian
Mountains NP or AONB.
